Intercultural opening of early childhood education
The Municipal Integration Center takes on the cross-sectional task in the field of "Intercultural Opening of Early Childhood Education".
There is close networking with other departments and municipal and independent providers that offer services for children aged zero to ten.
The objectives include
- Ensure that families with an international family history have access to existing services
 - Improve opportunities for participation
 - Support departments and sponsors in designing new services for the target group
 - Networking of existing services and providers in early childhood education

If you notice any language or other access barriers within the administration's services, would like to make suggestions or would like to exchange ideas in this regard, please feel free to contact us.
The Municipal Integration Center has been coordinating the following programs for many years as part of the intercultural opening of early childhood education: GriffbereitMINI, Griffbereit, Rucksack KiTa .
Interested institutions or families can contact the Municipal Integration Center.

The group is led by a multilingual parent guide and is aimed at all families who are interested in multilingual support for their children. Families with children between the ages of one and three can take part. Griffbereit groups can be offered in family education centres, family centers or migrant organizations, for example. One family center is currently taking part.
KiTa backpack
Rucksack KiTa is a program for everyday, multilingual language and family education in daycare centers. It is offered for multilingual children between the ages of four and six and their families. Parent groups meet weekly at the daycare center under the guidance of a parent mentor. They provide thematic support materials. She also advises and supports the parents and gives them suggestions for encouraging their children to learn and practise their native language.
The implementation of the program in a daycare center or family center strengthens the cooperation between family and institution and can support the institutions in their diversity-oriented opening. In Cologne, the program is currently being implemented at 19 daycare centers. Funding is provided by the local authorities and the Ministry for Children, Youth, Family, Equality, Refugees and Integration.
There is an official multilingual program homepage on which information and short videos on the programs can be found:
