On 27 May 2025, the Cologne City Council approved a bill for the financial support of migrant organizations (MO) for the years 2025 and 2026. The aim of this funding programme is to support the important work of migrant organizations in Cologne, which make a significant contribution to social cohesion and integration.

Migrant organizations are committed to the interests of Cologne residents with an international family history, who now make up at least 40 % of the population. At the same time, they promote peaceful and respectful coexistence in urban society.

The funding program comprises various thematic priorities, including

The migrant organizations BFmF e.V. and InterKultur e.V. were awarded funding for the „Culturally sensitive counseling for senior citizens in Cologne“ as part of a selection process and were able to start their counseling activities in August and September 2025.

This culturally sensitive advice for senior citizens in Cologne is offered in several languages and is provided by both BfmF e.V. and InterKultur e.V., among others:

Support in understanding and completing applications
Help with the use of cell phones and tablets
Advice on topics such as housing and social security
Referral to social services

Elementary school GGS Garthestraße new in the network „School without racism -
On October 10, 2025, Garthestraße Community Primary School in Riehl joined the „School without Racism - School with Courage“ and „School of Diversity“ networks. At the atmospheric admission ceremony, pupils presented contributions on the topic of diversity that they had previously submitted to an internal school competition. These included their own poems and stories and expressive posters. The school's sponsor is André Schulze Isfort, President of the StattGarde Colonia Ahoj carnival club. The Courage Network aims to combat racism and discrimination and to promote the appreciation of diversity.

Network meeting "School without racism - school with courage"
The „School without Racism - School with Courage“ network meeting for teachers and school social workers from primary and special schools in the administrative district of Cologne took place on October 7, 2025. The main topic of this event was „Democracy (values) education“ in the classroom. Lina Kathe from 10drei e.V. presented the 10drei approach and the 10drei workshop formats. There was then an opportunity to try out individual methods and exercises in practice and to talk about examples of best practice and the integration of the formats into everyday school life.

"Fatherhood" training series launched
The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia specifically promotes fatherhood work at the municipal integration centers in order to strengthen fathers with a history of immigration in their role as family fathers. The aim is to support them in their parenting role and to emphasize their importance as positive role models for their children. Working with fathers plays a crucial role, particularly in the context of preventing extremism and violence: they should be strengthened and integrated as active and responsible caregivers in education and the communication of values. The 6-part training series for prospective father mentors has been running at the Municipal Integration Center of the City of Cologne since 17.09.2025. Participants are trained by experts such as Sandro Di Maggio and Prof. Dr. Michael Tunç to carry out fatherhood work for fathers with an international family history. Work with the actual target group will then begin in 2026 in the form of fathers' evenings and similar events. Participants will be trained in the following areas, for example Prevention, sensitivity to diversity, conflict management, social and communication skills and facilitation methods and techniques....
