The City of Cologne supports initiatives and associations with money. Associations and initiatives that primarily help refugees can use this money to pay mini-jobbers or freelancers. These in turn help the associations to carry out office and administrative tasks.

Applications for the year 2025 can be submitted until December 15, 2025.

State funding for voluntary associations and initiatives in the context of prevention at municipal integration centers

 

The Municipal Integration Center will receive €58,000 from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia this year. The money will be used to support volunteer programs. The aim is to enable refugees and new immigrants to participate more effectively in everyday life. Only purely voluntary initiatives or associations are eligible for funding under the program. This means that associations that employ staff are not eligible to receive money. In such cases, the term "full-time position" is used.

Voluntary associations can receive funding of 1,000 euros each for individual projects. The first deadline to apply for money was June 30, 2025. If there are further opportunities, the Municipal Integration Center will inform you about them on this page.

Forum for a welcoming culture

 

The Forum for Welcoming Culture consists of two associations, the Kölner Freiwilligenagentur e. V. and the Kölner Flüchtlingsrat e. V. (Cologne Refugee Council).
There are many welcome initiatives, groups and private individuals in Cologne who support refugees.

The Forum for Welcoming Culture connects volunteers and supports them in their work for refugees so that some things can perhaps be done even better. The forum also contributes new ideas so that even more people can get involved in working with refugees and refugees can participate more easily in life in Cologne.
